5.0 out of 5 stars"Very good for this price point" 2010-08-29
By Mark Nickelson (Twin Cities, MN)
I like this player for the most part. Sound and video quality are superb as is with every bluray player I've used so far. A lot of people complain about the load times but I've had no issues with it. Maybe I'm more patient, but 30 seconds to wait for a 2 hour movie seems rather trivial to complain about, don't you? Netflix streams like a dream even using the supplied wireless dongle. My only complaint is the buttons on top are a little stiff too push.

A would recommend this player to anyone, and have.

Setup was a breeze. The Wi-Fi gadget on a cable allowed me to place the player where I wanted it and, by moving the "dongle," get maximum signal. I have been using it for Netflix and Pandora since the day I set it up without a hitch. Blu-Ray DVD's are sharp and clear.
Nothing but good news so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars"better than i expected" 2010-08-19
By jhn
I bought this player to get a quality DVD player. It has exceeded my expectations. I could have paid less, but I wanted something that I could depend on. I don't have an HD TV, but wanted a DVD player that I could use when I upgrade later to HD. With my regular TV set the picture is fantastic. Total setup time was about 5 minutes. Unplug the old DVD player, plug in the new. Everything worked flawlessly right out of the box. Hopefully, it will be like that for a while. It is a Sony, right??

This dvd player is perfect. Small and efficient. Remembers the place you leave off on a disc, even when you take the disc out of the machine and put it back in later. Works great.

We bought this for our "technologically-challenged (her words)" mother. She just needed a DVD player for her CRT television that was simple and dependable. It plays her Korean dramas flawlessly, so she likes it a lot. Also, she told me that she likes being able to eject the disc by remote control. She set this up herself before I could go and help!

Experience Movies Like Never Before

The DMP-BD65 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film. Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players employ high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel.
Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p.
This Blu-ray Disc player also provides 1080/24p output, reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion--enabling you to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p-compatible TV.
Complimenting the HD audio codecs, the BD65 Blu-ray Disc player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars"Works great with Netflix" 2010-08-24
By Dan K. Wells (Lowell, MA)
I bought this to use with Netflix and it works perfect. We have a small apartment so my modem and TV are next to each other and I am able to stream movies directly from my modem to the player with an ethernet cable. I have not actually put a DVD into the player yet so I have no idea how that feature works.

5.0 out of 5 stars"Why Did I Take So Long To Buy It??" 2010-08-23
By Jennifer A. Kyle (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I love this Blu-Ray player. My favorite feature is connecting it directly to the internet to watch Netflix movies. I have had no problems with streaming movies to it. I also enjoy some of the other Viera features as well, such as Pandora. My whole family loves this player and it is already radically changing our movie/tv watching habits. HD blows everything else away. My husband even joked "this saved our marriage." The only thing I would suggest that they improve is the remote. It isn't impossible to figure out the basics, but it isn't the most user friendly thing ever. It takes some getting used to that is for sure. For the price, it is certainly an awesome deal!

5.0 out of 5 stars"Very Good Blu-Ray player." 2010-08-22
By solo
I bought this to replace a Panasonic DMP-BD30. I was very happy with the BD30...good picture, fast load time. However, the BD65 is far superior! First movie I tested - opening scene from Mamma Mia...with the waves behind and beside the boat...the oversaturated colors and underexposed night...it took my breath away it was so real. And I've seen the movie many times on the same setup. And this was in the daytime in a very bright room!

I was surprised. The difference was apparent immediately. This is a Very Good Blu-Ray player.

Load time is faster than the BD30, which was already fast.

This is my first blue ray player. I am pleased with my purchase. It does everything that I thought it would do. I have had it for about one month. So far it has been a good experience. I have it connected by a wire to my home net work and enjoy the netcast feature, you can view youtube and get movies streamed via the internet. I only have a 1.5 MB internet connection so I do not try to view HD movies over the net. You may need a faster internet connection if you want to get HD movies streamed to you. I would recommend the player.

5.0 out of 5 stars"All the features I wanted" 2010-08-23
By A Reader (St. Peters, MO United States)
Reading reviews on Amazon of various Blu-Ray players by various companies left me scratching my head. Pretty much everything out there has reviewers who love the product and others who hate it. Doesn't matter what brand you are talking about, they all have some bad reviews. I think that is because these have become such complex devices with the internet TV features etc.

I ended up with the Samsung because it had the features I wanted and I did not want to go for the cheapest thing out there. As they say, you get what you pay for. Samsung is a very recognizable brand.

The specific features that I cared most about was the ability to play both Blu-Ray and standard DVD, Netflix streaming, and built-in Wifi. Also, when I was looking at the store the Samsung was the only one there that said anything on the box about built-in memory. Although 1GB doesn't sound like a lot, the others as far as I could tell might have had less. Manufacturers need to be better about putting the technical specs on the box so users can make an informed decision.

I did not have an issue with the remote that came with the player. This is actually my first Blu-Ray player, so I don't have any preconceived notion of what the remote should be like. I also did not have any problem with the user interface. Graphical icons come up, you arrow between them and click on them. What could be simpler?

The Netflix interface works fine. I haven't found it to be slower in loading than my Xbox or Wii, although I haven't timed it with a stop watch. Unfortunately, it doesn't let you browse movie categories the way the Xbox or Wii do, but only lets you see your instant watch queue. The device can update software over the internet, so I am hoping that Samsung eventually comes out with an update.

Setup was easy. The hardest part was entering the password for my wireless router. Then I had to wait quite a while as it downloaded software. My wife said that her first time trying to use it when I wasn't there it wanted to update so she let it and then she got frustrated having to wait for it to download the update. However, I want to get software updates, so I really can't complain too much about that.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.
