Customer Reviews
I was thinking about finding a unit with built-in WiFi, before making the purchase(s), I have some research online and heard (examine) some horror stories about streaming by way of WiFi that were, let's say, considerably less than complementary (glitches, disconnects, gets frozen requiring reboots, etc.), so I chosen to purchase this unit BECAUSE it did not have WiFi (why pay for an attribute that I'm not going to employ?). I already have a Sony BDP-S370 (using it with a Samsung flat screen) and like this a lot; I would have acquired two more of them, but they weren't available directly from Amazon after i ordered, so I got these - I prefer buying from Amazon for their results policy. Also, the BDP-S380 facilitates 'vudu' AND it has an about-screen digital throughput speed readout (throughout Mbps) which appears when streaming is beginning up - both welcome additions!
My startup took about 15 minutes from any time I opened the box until I'm watching discs, Amazon VOD, and Video on demand (the only ones that I've build so far). I connected the BDP-S380 to my TV by way of HDMI, and my LAN via Ethernet cable and everything just did wonders (of course, I had to arrange it for my Amazon and Netflix records, but that took less than all 5 minutes each). After going through a on-screen quick start menus, the machine told me that there was any firmware upgrade available, so I informed it to do it, and a few moments later, it finished and turned alone off (normal when upgrading firmware).
My friend's setup took a bit extended, since she had never set one particular up before and I couldn't observe what was happening while I attemptedto talk her through everything (from ram). She connected to her TV with all the (supplied-in-the-box) AV cable. Because her TV was 4:three or more aspect ratio, some of the choices didn't display legibly, which is in all probability what made things take a bit longer. Anyway, we got everything working properly within about 20-25 minutes.
The one thing of note I would like to cover is this: all BD players manufactured after 01/01/2011 have DRM firmware which prevents HD indicators from using any output other as compared with HDMI. For me, that was no worries since I was using HDMI; because my friend was using AV, anything was displayed on her TV throughout SD (not really a problem because that is all it's capable of displaying anyway, and she'll be utilizing HDMI if she ever sets way up her flat screen *:^).
I'm very pleased about this unit (and so is your lover). Its outputs are crisp and strong, its user interface is staight-forward and easy to understand, and physical size, shape, and appearance should fit in anywhere.
Definitely a some-star device.
